How It All Started

It all started with a truckload of clams and a love for the Cape.

Matt Rocheleau grew up digging clams in Falmouth’s Great Pond and working the waters around the Cape. By the early ’80s, he was hauling fresh shellfish to Boston’s fish pier and delivering to local Cape restaurants—often with nothing more than a pickup, a cooler, and a promise that whatever he brought in was as fresh as it gets.

When Matt met Sue, the two of them built The Clam Man the same way they built their life together—through hard work, long days, and a commitment to doing things the right way. They raised their family on the Cape, bought a refrigerated truck, and grew the business one delivery, one customer, and one early morning haul at a time.

By 1993, they officially opened The Clam Man Market in Falmouth, bringing restaurant-quality seafood straight to the community they loved.

Today, The Clam Man remains family-owned and family-driven, supplying over 170 of the Cape’s top restaurants and serving generations of locals and visitors through our retail market.

Premium seafood. Made in-house. Delivered with pride from a family who still shows up before sunrise.

Four kids, four decades, and countless early mornings later, Sue and Matt are still the heartbeat of The Clam Man. Their son Marc now leads the next chapter as Director of Operations—working side by side with his parents to keep the family legacy strong and the standards even stronger.

The Clam Man isn’t just part of the Cape Cod landscape — it’s woven into the fabric of Falmouth.Sue and Matt raised all four of their kids here, and from day one they’ve believed in giving back to the town that’s given them everything. Over the years, The Clam Man has proudly supported countless local programs: Falmouth Volunteers in Public Schools, Falmouth Hockey, the Falmouth Service Center, Homeless Prevention Council, ALS One, Adopt-A-Family, and more.

From donating seafood for fundraisers to handing out Christmas trees during the holidays, the Rocheleau family shows up for their neighbors in big and small ways. Community isn’t a box they check — it’s part of who they are, and it’s been at the heart of The Clam Man for nearly four decades.

Whether it's lifting up a local family, supporting a school, or backing organizations that strengthen the Cape, giving back will always be a core part of this business.
